द मॅन विथ वन रेड शु (The man with one Red Shoe)

रिचर्ड हा एक साधाभोळा व्हायोलीन वादक असतो. त्याचा मित्र त्याची थट्टा करण्याकरता त्याचा एक बूट लपवतो. त्यामुळे रिचर्डला दोन वेगळेच बूट घालून विमानातून प्रवास करावा लागतो. त्यामुळे त्याच्या एका पायात लाल रंगाचा स्पोर्ट बूट व दुसऱ्या पायात एक फॉर्मल शु असतो. असा विचित्र वेश करून विमानातून परत येत असताना त्याच्या समोर मॅडी नावाची एक सुस्वरूप ललना येते. हि मॅडी खर तर सी आई ए ची एजंट असते. हा मनुष्य नक्की कोण आहे हे बघण्यासाठी ती त्याला मिठी वगेरे पण मारते. रिचर्डला खूप आश्चर्य वाटते, पण याचे बघता क्षणीच तिच्या वर प्रेम होते.

कुपर आणि रॉस हे दोघे सीआईएच्या डिरेक्टर पदासाठीचे उमेदवार असतात. रॉसला शर्यतीतून मागे खेचण्यासाठी कुपर खोटी केस रचतो आणि त्यात रॉस हवा तो रिझल्ट आणू शकत नाही आणि त्यामुळे रॉसची प्रतिमा खराब होते. रॉसला समजते की हा सगळा उद्योग कुपरने केला आहे. आता त्याला काटशह देण्याकरता म्हणून रॉस अशी हूल उठवतो की आता खूप मोठा कोकेनचा माल अमेरिकेत येणार आहे आणि त्याच्या मागे असलेला सूत्रधार म्हणजे ज्या मनुष्याने एकाच लाल बूट घातला आहे तो आहे. आता रॉसची टीम आणि कुपरची एकमेकांवर कुरघोडी करण्याकरता रिचर्डच्या मागे लागतात. पण रिचर्ड हा खरोखरीच एक पापभिरू मनुष्य असतो. कोणालाच त्याच्या रेकोर्ड मध्ये काहीच वाईट आढळून येत नाही. मग त्याच्या घरी नकळत जाऊन, त्याच्यावर पाळत ठेवण्यासाठी काही गोष्टी ठेवतात.

इकडे रिचर्ड मॅडीच्या प्रेमात पडल्यामुळे, मॅडी जिथे जिथे दिसेल तिथे तिच्या मागे मागे जातो. शेवटी कुपर मॅडीला म्हणतो की रिचर्डला प्रेमाच्या जाळ्यात ओढ आणि त्याच्या कडून सगळी माहिती काढून आण. कुपर त्याच्या मिशन मध्ये यशस्वी होतो का ? रॉस आणि कुपर यांच्यातील कोण सी आई ए चा डिरेक्टर होते ? मॅडी आणि रिचर्ड पुढे काय होते हे बघा द मॅन विथ वन रेड शु मध्ये.

सिनेमा खूपच विनोदी आहे. टॉम हॅन्क्सचे जे काही चित्रपट लायब्ररीत मिळतील ते बघायचे, असे धोरण ठेवल्याने हा सिनेमा मिळाला. अर्थात हा सिनेमा बघितला नसता तरी काही हरकत नव्हती. डोके बाजूला काढून ठेवले तर निखळ करमणूक आहे. सगळे विनोद एकदम झकास जमले आहेत. टॉम हॅन्क्स या सिनेमात अगदीच पोरगेलासा आहे. पण त्याचा अभिनय उत्तम आहे.

Richard is a violin artist and is very simple guy. Once on a performance tour, one of his friends hides one each of his two shoes. So finally Richard travels on flight with two different shoes in his feet. One red sports shoe and another formal leather shoe. While exiting out of airport he bumps on Maddy a very hot airport girl. But in reality she is a CIA agent. She is conning all this to figure out who this strange guy is with a red shoe. Richard falls for her in their very brief encounter.

Cooper and Ross and competing for getting CIA directors post and to win over Ross, Cooper plots a false case and makes sure that is assigned to Ross. Ross is not able to deliver results, so his image is tarnished. Ross learns that this was all plotted by Cooper, so now he plots another case. Richard is picked up by them due to his strange shoe style that day. 

Now both the teams and trying to follow every movement of Richard. They bug Rishard's house, thoroughly check it in his absence. But Richard is so innocent that nothing could be found or proved. In this process Richard keeps bumping on Maddy several times. Most of the times purposefully plotted. They realize that he is falling for her and then plan to use that and make Maddy act as if she is also in love. What happens next between them ? Who is successful in the race. Who becomes next director of CIA needs to be watched in the movie The Man with a Red Shoe.

This movie is a good comedy. We got to watch this because we like Tom Hanks and we are trying to watch all his movies. If you like comedies or fan of Tom Hanks, you should not miss this movie. Tom looks very young in this movie and as usual his acting has his own class.

द सिक्थ सेन्स (The Sixth Sense)

 माल्कम क्रोवे हा एक मानसोपचारतज्ञ असतो. याचे मुख्य काम मुलांना मानसिक तणावातून मुक्त करणे हे असते. तो चांगलाच नावाजलेला डॉक्टर असतो. त्याला मेयर कडून एक खूप सन्माननीय बक्षीस मिळालेले असते. त्याची बायको अना, आणि माल्कम बक्षीस मिळाल्याचा आनंद साजरा करत असतात. तितक्यात त्यांना त्याच्या घराच्या खिडकीची काच फुटलेली दिसते. कोण घरात घुसलाय याचा ते शोध घेत असतात, तितक्यात त्यांना माल्कमचा एक जुना पेशंट दिसतो तो माल्कम वर खूप रागावतो आणि त्या रागाच्या भरात तो गोळी झाडतो.

त्यानंतर मग माल्कमच्या दुसरा पेशंट गोष्ट सुरु होते. या वेळेस माल्कम हा एका ९ वर्षाच्या मुलाबरोबर "कोल" बरोबर काम करतो. या मुलाला दिवसा-उजेडी अर्थात २४ तास मृत लोक दिसत असतात. आणि त्याला याची खूप भीती वाटत असते. त्यामुळे तो कोणाबरोबर बोलत नाही. व जरा एकलकोंडा होतो. त्यात त्याच्या आई-वडिलांचा घटस्फोट होतो त्यामुळे तर ह्याला खूपच एकटे वाटत असते. माल्कम ला वाटते की आई -वडिलांचा झालेला घटस्फोट यामुळे हा मुलगा एकलकोंडा झालेला आहे व याचे वागणे बदलले आहेत की काय ? माल्कम या मुलाला भेटायला जातो तेव्हा कोल हा त्याला भेटायला तयार नसतो. माल्कम आणि कोलची आई कोलची शाळेतून येण्याची वाट बघत बसलेले असतात. कोल घरी येतो जेव्हा तो माल्कमला बघतो तेव्हा तो अचानक त्याचे अस्तित्व नाकारून खोलीत जायला निघतो. पण माल्कम कोलशी बोलतो आणि म्हणतो की मी उल मदत करायला आलेलो आहे. मी लोकांच्या मनातील गोष्टी ओळखतो. जर मी तुझ्या मनातील गोष्ट ओळखली तर तू एक पाउल पुढे यायचे नाहीतर तू दोन पावले मागे जायचे. बऱ्याच प्रश्नोत्तरानंतर कोल माल्कमशी बोलायला तयार होतो.

मग कोल माल्कमला सगळ्या गोष्टी सांगू लागतो. आणि कोल च्या वर्तनात थोडा बदल होऊ लागतो. एकदा कोल त्याच्या आईबरोबर एका पार्टीला जातो. तिथे काही द्वाड मुले कोलला एका कापतात बंद करतात. आणि त्यामुळे कोलला फीत येतेआणि त्याला दवाखान्यात दाखल करावे लागते. त्याची आई गेल्यावर माल्कम कोल शी बोलायला जातो, तेव्हा कोल त्याच्या मनात खोल दडवून ठेवलेले गुपित सांगतो. कोलला मृत लोक दिसत असतात आणि ते मृत लोक कोलशी बोलण्याचा प्रयत्न करत असतात. हे ऐकल्यावर माल्कमला जरा विचित्र वाटते आणि मग माल्कम त्याच्या जुना पेशंट, ज्याने माल्कमवर गोळी झाडली असते, त्याची ट्रीटमेंट करताना रेकोर्ड केलेले सगळे संभाषण ऐकतो आणि त्याच्या लक्षात येते कि तो पेशंट आणि माल्कम च्या व्यतिरिक्त अजून काही आवाज त्यात आलेले आहेत.

मग माल्कम त्याचा शोध घेण्याचा प्रयत्न करतो आणि मग शिवाय कोल बरोबर जाऊन त्याला नक्की कुठे मृत लोक दिसतात याचा शोध घेण्याचा प्रयत्न करतो. माल्कमला जरी काहीच दिसत नसले, तरी तो कोलला या सगळ्याकडे खूप पोशितीव दृष्टीने बघायला सांगतो आणि म्हणतो कदाचित हे मृत लोक तुझ्याशी बोलतात कारण त्यांना तू मदत करू शकशील असे वाटते. त्यानुसार कोल २-३ मृत लोकांच्या नातेवाईकांना काही गोष्टी सांगतो आणि मग कोल ची मृत व्यक्ती दिसण्याबद्दलची भीती नाहीशी व्हायला लागते. नंतर माल्कमची पुढील केस काय असते.. माल्कम आणि कोल यांचे संबध कसे संपतात हे बघा "द सिक्थ सेन्स" मध्ये.

सिनेमाचा शेवट एकदमच निराळा आहे. सिनेमा अतिशय छान आहे. सगळ्यांनी बघावा.. अर्थात ज्यांना भूत-प्रेतांची भीती वाटत नाही त्यांनी बघावा. सिनेमात फार काही बिभित्स सीन नाहीत. एक-दोन सीन असले, तरी ते सिनेमाच्या कथेच्या दृष्टीने आवश्यक आहेत. हा सिनेमा जरी इंग्रजी असला तरी भारतीय मूळ असलेल्या एकाने लिहिला आहे. त्यामुळे अजून छान वाटले.

तुम्ही हा सिनेमा बघितला असल्यास किंवा अजून काही प्रतिक्रिया असल्यास जरूर लिहाव्या.

Malcolm Crow is a leading psychologist in the town. He is specialized in child psychology and is helping a lot of children to come out of mental stress and tensions. Because of his reputation and service to society, Mayor recognizes him with a honor plaque. As he returns home and is celebrating his award with his wife, they hear a sound and notice one of the glasses is broken. He starts looking for an intruder in his house and he discovers a old patient of his. His patient looks very upset and disturbed and just shoots at Malcolm.

Another patient of Malcolm is a nine year old boy Cole. He sees ghosts everywhere and even during the day time, specially when no other people are around him. Cole is really scared due to this ghosts around him. He is also becoming a loner and is not having any friends. His parents are recently separated and this has added more mental stress on little Cole. Malcolm's preliminary analysis about the reason of Cole's situation is divorce of his parents. Initially Cole is not ready to interact with Malcolm at all. While Malcolm is waiting with Cole's mother for Cole to return form school, Cole simply ignores him.


Malcolm strikes a conversation with him. He tells Cole that he is there to help him and requests him to play a game with him. He tells Cole that he can tell what is going on in people's minds and if guesses Cole's mind right, Cole with step one step towards him, else he can put a step back. After a lot of perseverance Cole gets interested bit and starts talking to Malcolm.


As days pass, Cole opens up with Malcolm and starts improving slowly. One of those days, Cole attends a party with his mother. Some naughty kids in the party lock him up in a closet. In the darkness of the closet he sees some ghosts again and in the hysteria, he injures himself and needs to be taken to the hospital in unconscious state. That was the time Malcolm visits Cole, and he really opens up his real secret fear. This was the time he believes that Malcolm is really going to help him and describes how he sees dead people and how they talk to him. Malcolm is really confused now, he starts recalling the conversations he had with a old patient of him, the one who fired a gun on him at one point. He goes back and listens to the recordings he has with the old patient and discovers that there were some other voices recorded in that, which he had failed to hear that time.


Malcolm really get involved in the case now and starts digging dipper and dipper in to it. He advises Cole to listen to the dead and try to understand what they are trying to tell. He gives Cole a positive perspective. He suggests Cole that may be they are approaching him for help and if he does that, they will stop bothering him. Slowly Cole gathers courage and started observing the dead he sees and starts interacting him. With help of Malcolm he meets some of the relatives of the dead and talks to them. This helps Cole to come out of the mental stress. How finally Malcolm handles the case needs to be watched in the movie.

The climax of the movie is really different. This is a must watch movie, but be careful if you are scared of horror movies.All the scenes and decent, only are at times shocking and scare the audience. Much much better than most of the horror movies I have seen, The movie is produced in Hollywood but by an person of Indian origin Night Shymalan. Bruce Willis as Malcolm and Haley Osment as Cole are really good. This movie received six Oscar nominations.

द हेल्प (The Help )

१९५०-६० च्या दरम्यान जेव्हा अमेरिकेत काळे-गोरे यांच्यामध्ये भांडण सुरु होते त्याकाळातील हा सिनेमा आहे. त्यावेळी अमेरिकेतील काळ्या लोकांची परिस्थिती खूप वाईट होती हे सगळ्यांना माहितच आहे. सुरवातीला गुलाम असलेले काळे लोक, नंतर गोऱ्या लोकांकडे नोकर म्हणून काम करू लागले. पण बऱ्याच गोऱ्या लोकांना तरीही, काळ्या लोकांच्या बद्दलचा द्वेष कायम होता. असे म्हणतात, की अजूनही काही ठिकाणी तो कायम आहे. तर जेव्हा काळ्या लोकांना बरोबरीचे हक्क नव्हते तेव्हाचा हा सिनेमा आहे. बहुतेक काळ्या बायका गोऱ्या बायकांच्या घरी मेड (नोकर) म्हणून काम करीत असे. मुलांना सांभाळणे, घरातील केर-वारे, भांडी घासणे, सैपाक करणे अशी कामे त्या करीत असत.

या सिनेमातील गोष्ट आहे ॲबलीन क्लार्कची, तिने केलेल्या धाडसाची. तिला आलेले बरे-वाईट अनुभव सगळ्या लोकांसमोर मांडून काळ्यांची बाजू पण लोकांसमोर आणण्याची. अर्थात या साठी तिला एका गोऱ्या मुलीची मदत मिळते. अबिलीन क्लार्क ही १४ वर्षाची असल्यापासून मुलांना सांभाळण्याचे काम करत असते. तिचा एकुलता एक मुलगा काळ्या-गोऱ्यांच्या भांडणात मारला जातो. आता ती एकटी या जगात स्वत:च्या भावना दाबून जगत असते. हिला काळ्यालोकांवर होणाऱ्या अन्यायाबद्दल चीड असते पण त्यांच्या विरुद्ध आवाज उठवणे इतके सोपे नसल्याने हे गप्प असते. हिची मैत्रीण मिनी ही तशी फटकळ असते त्यामुळे ती तिला वाटणाऱ्या सगळ्या गोष्टींबद्दल तिच्या मालकांकडे तक्रार करते व त्यामुळे हिला सारखी नोकरी बदलावी लागत असते.

स्कीटर ही एका अतिश्रीमंत गोऱ्या बापाची मुलगी असते. हिच्या सगळ्या मैत्रिणींची लग्ने झालेली असतात शिवाय त्यांना मुले देखील असतात. स्कीटरला अजून कोणीच पसंत पडत नाही. हिला काहीतरी वेगळे करायचे असते. ही स्वत:चे करियर करण्याच्या मागे असते. तिला एका न्यूजपेपर मध्ये नोकरी मिळते. तिथे तिच्या लक्षात येते की काळ्या लोकांवर बराच अन्याय होतो आहे आणि ज्या काळ्या बायका नोकर म्हणून गोऱ्यांच्या घरी नोकऱ्या करत आहेत त्यांना सध्या बेसिक गोष्टींची देखील सुविधा मिळत नाही. ते बघून ती ठरवते की मिळतील तितक्या काळ्या स्त्रियांची मुलाखत घ्यायची. त्यासाठी ती ॲबलीनला भेटायचे ठरवते. सुरवातीला ॲबलीन बोलायला तयार होत नाही. पण मग खूप विचारान्ती तयार होते व तिला आलेले सगळे अनुभव कथन करते

स्कीटरची एक मैत्रीण हिली ही एक काळ्यांच्या विरुद्द लोकांच्या मनात विष कालवण्यासाठी प्रसिद्ध असते. आणि स्कीटरला हे अजिबात आवडत नाही. हिलीच्या नवऱ्याचा एक मित्र स्कीटरचा नवरा म्हणून योग्य आहे असे हिलीला वाटते आणि त्यादृष्टीने ती प्रयत्न करू लागते आणि त्यात तिला असे समजते कि स्कीटरचे काळ्या नोकर स्त्रियांबरोबर काही गुप्त काम सुरु आहे.

मग ते नक्की काय असते. काळ्या स्त्रिया नक्की काय गोष्टी सांगतात मिनी आणि ॲबलीनचे आयुष्य कसे असते याचे दर्शन या सिनेमात होते. सिनेमा एकदम छान आहे. सगळ्यांनी बघावा असा आहे. हा सिनेमा एका पुस्तकावर आधारित आहे. त्या पुस्तकाबद्दलची लिंक येथे दिली आहे. या सिनेमाला बरेच पुरस्कार देखील मिळालेले आहेत.

This movie plot is from 1950s when in United States, Black people were not treated equal and were restricted to certain jobs and professions. We are all aware of the the times, and how they were treated. Though they were not slaves, most of the black people were working as domestic servants. They always had a tension among the communities, which continues till date in certain places. Most of the black ladies used to work as maid servants and use to take care of all the household chores, taking care of the kids etc.

This is story of Aibileen Clark, a brave lady, who has expressed her thoughts and experiences to inform people the conditions of the time. This was made possible because she met a white girl, who was interested in know and bring things to light. Aibileen has been taking care of white kids for the families. She had one son, who was killed in a road fight involving black and white people. After that she has been surviving alone with the pain in her heart. She is really upset with the way black people were treated, but is aware that in the circumstances it is not easy even to express it openly. One of her close friend is Minny. She is free and frank person and can not always be politically correct, She talks out the things she is unhappy about to the employers, and due this habit, she has to change her job frequently.

Skeeter is a girl with rich parents. She is a free thinking journalist. Most of her classmates are now married and have children, but she is not even dating yet. She is ambitious and career oriented, and wants to work for a big publishing house. To start with she manages to get a job with the local newspaper. She is disturbed by the fact that black ladies working as domestic servents are suffering and at times treated very badly. The problem of lack of basic amenities for this ladies is her concern ans she decides to write something about it. While looking for ladies to interview and understand how their life is, she meets Aibileen and after lot of convincing, Aibileen is ready to share her story.

A good friend of Skeeter is Hilli. She is not only treating black ladies with discrimination, but also spreading misinformation about them among all her white friends. Skeeter is very disturbed at her friends attitude. Hilli helps her husband's friend meet skitter and they start dating. But through him, Hilli learn that Skeeter is doing to secret work with black ladies.

What exactly is Skitter doing ? How Aibileen and Minny are involved in that process ? The movies shows this very well and insights in the lives of Aibileen and Minny. This movie is based on a best seller book The Help. Both the book and the movie have received several awards and a must watch movie for all ages.

द नेमसेक (The Namesake)

अशोक गांगुलीला कलकत्त्याला लहानाचा मोठा झालेला आणि आता अमेरिकेत एका युनिवर्सिटी मध्ये पीएचडी करत असतो. तो लग्न करायला म्हणून भारतात येतो. जुन्या रीतिरिवाजाप्रमाणे मुलगी बघून लग्न ठरवले जाते. मुलगी असते असीमा. असीमाला खरतर शास्त्रीय संगीताची खूप आवड असते. ती शिकत देखील असते. पण आई-वडील लग्न ठरवतात आणि त्या दोघांना पण काही प्रोब्लेम नसतो. त्यामुळे ती दोघे लग्न करून अमेरिकेत येतात. अशोक गांगुली खूपच चांगला असतो. आशिमाची चांगली काळजी घेतो. त्यांना लवकरच एक मुलगा होतो. मुलाचे नाव काय ठेवायचे असा प्रश्न असतो, पण भारतात सांगितल्यावर ते पत्रिका बघणार, मग जन्माक्षर येणार आणि मग नाव ठरणार याला खूप दिवस लागत असल्याने, व अमेरिकेत नाव ठेवल्याशिवाय घरी जाता येणे शक्य नसल्याने मुलाचे नाव गोगोल ठेवण्यात येते. गोगोलचे नाव निखील असेही ठेवण्यात येते, पण गोगोल हेच नाव प्रचलित होते. थोडे दिवसाने दुसरी मुलगी होते, तिचे नाव सोनिया ठेवण्यात येते.

शाळेत नाव घालायला जेव्हा आई-वडील जातात, तेव्हा गोगोलचे नाव निखील असे सांगण्यात येते, पण गोगोल म्हणतो की त्याला निखील आवडत नाही व शाळेत गोगोल हेच नाव ठेवायचे. सुरवातीला त्याला त्याच्या नावा बद्दल काहीच प्रोब्लेम नसतो. जेव्हा तो ६-७ जातो तेव्हा शाळेतील मुले त्याला त्याच्या नावावरून चिडवतात. ते बघून त्याला खूप वाईट वाटते व तो आई-वडिलांना म्हणतो की तुम्हाला दुसरे कुठले नाव सुचले नाही का? इतके वाईट नाव का ठेवले? पण आई-वडील काही सांगत नाही. थोडक्यात गोगोलला त्याच्या नावाचा तिटकारा असतो. तो जेव्हा हायस्कूल मध्ये जातो तेव्हा त्याला कळते की निकोलाई गोगोल नावाचा एक कोणीतरी रशियन लेखक होता. त्याच्या वडिलांना तो लेखक खूप आवडत असल्याने त्याचे नाव गोगोल ठेवण्यात आले आहे. गोगोल हा लेखक जरी खूप हुशार असतो, तरी तो थोडा विचित्र असतो. आणि सगळी मुले गोगोल उर्फ निखीलला, लेखकाच्या या विचित्र कॅरेक्टर मुळे चिडवत असतात. आता शाळा संपवून दुसऱ्या गावात युनिवर्सिटी मध्ये जाणार असतो. तो तिथे त्याचे नाव निक असे सांगतो, तिथे आता नवीन आयुष्य सुरु होते. त्याला तिथे एक मॅक्सीन नावाची एक गर्लफ्रेंड मिळते. तिचे आई-वडील खूप श्रीमंत असतात. निक आता घरी आई-वडिलांना टाळू लागतो. आईचा कधीही फोन आला तरी हा घरीच नसतो. तो घरी कधीही आपणहून फोन करत नाही. आशिमाला याचे खूप दुख होते. पण ती ते फार दाखवत नाही.

आता अशोक ओहायो युनिवर्सिटी मध्ये ६ महिने शिकवायला जाणार असतो. सोनिया पण आता कॉलेज मध्ये असते, त्यामुळे आशिमा एकटीच घरी राहत असते. आशिमाला वाटते की गोगोलने अशोक जाण्यापूर्वी एकदातरी त्यांना भेटायला यावे. हो- नाही करता करता तो येतो आणि त्याचा गर्लफ्रेंडला घेऊन येतो. आशिमाला सगळेच आवडत नाही पण तरी ते सगळे निमुटपणे सहन करते. गोगोल एक दिवस राहून जातो, अशोकला विमानतळावर पोचवायला आशिमा जाते, आणि तीच काय अशोकची शेवटची भेट ठरते. पोटात दुखतंय असा अशोकचा फोन येतो, तो सांगतो की काळजीचे काही कारण मी हॉस्पिटलमधूनच बोलत आहे. डॉक्टर माझ्यावर आता उपचार करतीलच. पण हा फोन शेवटचा ठरतो. अशोकचे तीव्र हृदयविकाराच्या झटक्याने निधन होते. वडील गेल्यावर मात्र गोगोलला खूप दुख होते आणि तो त्यांना काहीच सुख देऊ शकला नाही याबद्दल तीव्र पश्चाताप करतो. त्याचा गर्लफ्रेंडला सोडून देतो.

थोड्या दिवसाने त्याला मौसमी नावाची एक बंगाली मुलगी भेटते. तिच्याबरोबर तो लग्न करतो. सोनियाने पण एका अमेरिकन मुलाबरोबर लग्न करायचे ठरवले असते. अशीमाला काही प्रोब्लेम नसतो. ती म्हणते की जर मुलं खुश आहेत तर मला काही प्रोब्लेम नाही. पुढे गोगोल-मौसामिचे आयुष्य कसे जाते, गोगोलला त्याच्या नावाचे रहस्य कळते का हे बघा "नेमसेक" मध्ये.

सिनेमा ठीक आहे. एक अमेरिकेत आलेल्या भारतीय कुटुंबियांचे जगणे दाखवले आहेत. भारतीय मूल्य सोडता येत नाही, आणि अमेरिकी मूल्य नीट धरता येत नाहीत असे थोडेसे या सिनेमातून दाखवण्याचा दुबळा प्रयत्न केला आहे. सिनेमा एकूण गोष्ट म्हणून चांगला आहे. पण नक्की कश्यासाठी हा सिनेमा काढला हे नीटसे कळले नाही. मीरा नायरने दिग्दर्शित केलेला सिनेमा असल्याने सिनेमा खूप चांगला असेल असे वाटले, पण प्रत्यक्षात सिनेमा ठीक या वर्गात मोडेल.


Ashok Ganguli is born and brought up in Kolkata. Now he is doing his PhD in an American university. He visits India and his parents suggest him to get married. Acording to Indian customs he visits a girl's house meets Asima and marries her. Asima has deep interest in Indian classical music and she is pursuing it as serious hobby. Since her parents decide her marriage she happily marries Ashok. They move back to US. Asok is very caring husband and he takes care of her very well. Very soon they have their first boy child. The hospital staff asks for a name immediately. They are not really ready for this. They were planning to make the horoscope of the boy and get the first letter of the name form it and then decide on the name. But in the hospital they will not get discharge till they decide the name, so Ashok just suggests a name Gogol. Soon they get a girl and this time they are ready with name, so she is named Sonia. Later on they name Gogol as Nikhil but that is not changed in the papers, so Gogol remains his name.

At the time of school enrollment Asima tells his name as Nikhil but young Gogol insists that it should be Gogol itself. So again in the school the same name sticks him. Initially he is happy with the name but as he grows old and enters middle school he starts feeling uncomfortable for two reasons, first it is bit unusual and another is other kids tease him on that. He asks his parents why they named him like that, but his parents do not have a real reason to him. By the time he enters high school, he starts hating his own name. His parents tell him that they tried to keep his name Nikhil at the time of school enrollment but how he insisted on Gogol that time. He learns in the high school about a renowned Russian author Nicolai Gogol and since his father liked the author that name came to his mind at the time in the hospital. Gogol was renowned author but he is also know for his whimsical character. So his classmates continue to tease him.

He finishes high school and goes a University in different city. He takes this opportunity and changes his name to Nikhil aka Nick. His life changes and he gets reed of his past and the name stuck to him for years. He gets a girlfriend called Maxim and starts to enjoy life. Slowly he starts to avoid his family. He spends more time with Maxim's parents. He is never at home with Asima calls and never calls her up. Asima is disturbed and unhappy but never shows that.

Around this time Ashok gets an opportunity to teach in Ohio university for a semester as sabbatical. Since Asima has her job as librarian she decides to stay back and only Ashok is supposed to go there. Sonali is already married to a American guy and not with her. Asima wishes that Gogol should come and spend some time with her and Ashok before he leaves for Ohio. Finally Gogol visits them along with his girl friend. She is not really happy with this kind of relationships, but she accepts it all without resentment. Gogol spend some time with them and leaves even before Ashok is supposed to leave. Asima alone has to see Ashok off at the airport. That happens to be their last time spent together. In a few days Ashok calls her form Ohio and tells her that he has some pain in the stomach and is in the hospital. He dies with heart attack within few hours. The phone conservation between Ashok and Asima was the last one they had. At this point Gogol is shocked
and really sad. He feels he could not make his dad happy at all. He leaves his girlfriend and spends some time with his mother.

He reconnects his childhood friend Mausami. She has changed a lot over years. Gogol marries Mausami and since Sonali is already married and leading a good life and Gogol is into a decent job, Asima decides to come back to India. What happens next in the lives of Gogol and Asima needs to be watched in the movie Namesake. It also opens up the secret behind the name Gogol.

The movie is good. A non resident Indian family's life in US. The emotional stress. Their attempt to balance between the Indian morals & values and the American lifestyle and culture. The storyline and the plot seems good, but does not take complete grip over audience. Not as good as most of the Meera Nair movies. Not a must watch but can watch category. This movie is based on the novel by Jhumpa Lahiri

गुड बॉय (Good Boy)

ओवेन हा एक १२-१३ वर्षाचा मुलगा त्याच्या आई वडिलांबरोबर राहत असतो. याच्या आई वडिलांना घर घेऊन त्यात थोडे दिवस राहून मग ते घर जास्त किमतीला विकण्याचा खूप उत्साह असतो. त्यामुळे ओवेन बऱ्याच वेगवेगळ्या घरात राहिलेला असतो. मुख्य म्हणजे त्याला सारखं घर बदलण्याचा कंटाळा आलेला असतो. सारखे घर बदलणे, नवीन शेजार, त्यातून ओवेनचा एकलकोंडा स्वभाव, त्यामुळे याला मित्र तसे कमीच असतात. कमीच असतात असे म्हणण्यापेक्षा याला कोणीच मित्र नसतात. परंतु याला कुत्रांबद्दल खूप प्रेम असते. आणि याची अशी इच्छा असते कि घरी एक कुत्रे पाळावे.

अर्थात आई-वडिलांना खूप मान्य नसते. त्यामुळे ते ओवेनला सांगतात कि तू शेजारील लोकांच्या कुत्रांना रोज सातत्याने फिरवले तर आम्ही तुला कुत्रा घेऊन देऊ. ओवेनला कुत्रांचे इतके वेड असते की तो ही अट मान्य करतो. त्याप्रमाणे तो ४ कुत्रांना रोज फिरायला घेऊन जातो. प्रत्येक कुत्रा हा वेगळ्या जातीचा असतो. ओवेनला सगळ्या कुत्रांबरोबर खेळायला त्यांना रोज फिरायला न्यायला खूप आवडते. हा रोज सकाळी त्यांना घेऊन जाणार आणि तेव्हाच त्याच्या शेजारील काही टारगट मुलं याल चिडवणार असा नित्य नियमच असतो. ओवेन तरीही त्यांच्या कडे दुर्लक्ष करून त्याचे काम इमाने इतबारे करत असतो. या मुलांमध्येच एक मुलगी असते "केनी". तिला या टारगट मुलांचे वागणे मान्य नसते पण तिचा त्याबाबत काहीच इलाज नसतो.

तर अश्या या ओवेनला त्याच्या मेहनितीमुळे आई-वडिलांकडून कुत्रा पाळण्याची परवानगी मिळते. पेट स्टोर मध्ये एक कुत्रा पसंत पडतो. तो कुत्रा घरी आणल्या जातो त्याचे नाव हबल असे ठेवतो. तर हा हबल खूप हुशार असतो. आता कुत्र्याला ट्रेनिंग द्यायचे म्हणून ओवेन त्याला पटांगणावर घेऊन जातो. पहिल्या सांगण्यातच हबल सगळे करतो, हे बघून ओवेन खूप आश्चर्यचकित होतो. एक दिवस रात्री, हबल घरातून बाहेर पडतो, तेव्हा नेमकी ओवेनला जाग येते. तो पण हबलच्या मागे जातो तर त्याला दिसते कि हबल एका स्पेसशिपच्या जवळ जातो आहे आणि तिथून त्याला काही संदेश येत आहेत. ओवेन, हबलला हाका मारतो, हबल अचानक ओवेनचा आवाज ऐकून दचकतो आणि त्याच्या मशीनमधील काही किरणे ओवेनच्या अंगावर पडतात. त्यानंतर ओवेनला कुत्रांची भाषा कळायला लागते.

हबल मग ओवेनशी अगदी नीट गप्पा करू लागतो. हबल इथे का आला आहे, त्याचा उद्देश काय हे सगळे हबलला सांगतो. तर हबल हा एक परग्रहावरून आलेला एक कुत्रा असतो. त्याच्या माहितीनुसार पृथ्वीवर आलेली सगळीच कुत्री परग्रहावरून आले आहेत. परग्रहावरील प्रमुखांनी सगळ्या कुत्रांना इथे पाठवले, जेणे करून सगळी कुत्री इथे राज्य करतील. आता सगळी कुत्री नक्की काय करत आहेत याचा सविस्तर रिपोर्ट देण्यासाठी हबल इथे आलेला आहे. हे सगळे ऐकून सुरवातीला ओवेनला गम्मत वाटते. पण मग इतर कुत्र्यांचे बोलणे ऐकून ओवेनला ते पटते.

इथे आल्यावर सगळ्या कुत्रांची जी स्थिती आहे ती बघून हबल हबकून जातो. तो बघतो कि इथे कुत्र्याला पाळीव प्राणी म्हणून पाळले जाते. सगळी कुत्री माणसांचे बोलणे ऐकतात. हबल ओवेनला सांगतो की आता हा रिपोर्ट गेला, कि सिरिअस या ग्रहावरून पृथ्वीवरील कुत्र्यांना बोलावणे येईल. आणि जगातील सगळी कुत्री नष्ट होतील. ते जर का टाळायचे असेल तर जेव्हा सिरिअस वरील प्रमुख इथे भेट देईल तेव्हा, सगळ्या कुत्रांनी वेगळ्या पद्धतीने वागायला हवे. ओवेनला मिळालेला हा एकुलता एक मित्र, त्याला सोडून जाईल या भीतीने तो म्हणतो कि आपण सगळ्या कुत्रांना शिकवू या. मग हबल सगळ्या कुत्रांना वेगवेगळ्या पद्धती शिकवतो, ज्या त्यांच्या मुळ ग्रहावर सगळी कुत्री करत असतात. शेवटी हबल त्याच्या मिशनमध्ये यशस्वी होतो का? हबल पुन्हा सिरिअस वर परत जातो का ? हे बघा "गुड बॉय" मध्ये.

सिनेमा मस्त आहे. लहान मुलांना तर अगदीच नक्की आवडेल. बरीच कल्पनाशक्ती लावून हि गोष्ट लिहिली आहे असे वाटते. सगळ्या कुत्रांचा अभिनय बघून चाट व्हायला होते. या कुत्रांना त्यांच्या ट्रेनरने कसे शिकवले असेल याचे आश्चर्य तर निश्चित वाटते. ओवेन हा त्याच्या पात्रासाठी एकदम योग्य वाटला. सिनेमा लहान मुलांना नक्कीच दाखवावा.

Owen is a boy in his early teens staying with his parents. His parents always buy a house, stay in that for few days and sell it for a better price. This has led Owen stay in several different houses. Bit now he is getting fade up of this regular shifting of houses. Owen is a lonely child and hardly has any friends. But he likes to make friends with dogs and he really wants to have one as a pet.


His parents are not too much in favor of his plan to get a dog. So to indirectly avoid this they make a deal with Owen. If he regularly helps some of the dog owners in the neighborhood, to walk their dogs, they will let him have one. Owen loves dogs so much that he happily agrees to this and starts walking four different dogs. All the four dogs are of different breeds and Owen starts to enjoy his new task of walking the dogs and playing with them. When every morning Owen takes the dogs for the walk few naughty kids used to tease him.Owen is very sincere in his work and always ignores the kids teasing him. One of the kids there was Keny, she id not happy with the kids teasing Owen, but she is also helpless.

Looking at Owen's hard work his parents decide to get him a dog. They go to the pet store and Owen liks a dog. His parents get that dog for him. He names the dog Hubble. This new dog Hubble turns out to be a very cleaver dog. When Owen takes him to the ground and start to train him, he is really surprised. Hubble is very quick learner and learns almost all the things Owen wants him to do.


One night while in his bed, Owen senses Hubble is going out of the house. So out of curiosity Owen follows him. Hubble goes out and walks up to a space sheep. Hubble is communicating with the spaceship and Owen calls him. Hubble is startled due to this, and in the process Owen is exposed to some rays coming out of the spaceship. Owen starts to understand the language the dogs use from that moment.

Hubble is very good friend of Owen now and they can communicate like good friends. Over the time Hubble explains Owen why he is on earth. Hubble is from a planner called Serious, and in fact all the dogs are form the same planet. The dogs are supposed to rule the earth and that is why they are all sent. Not the chiefs want to know the progress the dogs have made and that is the reason Hubble is sent. Owen finds this hilarious to start with but after carefully listening to many dogs, he is convinced this is the truth.

Hubble is scared to see the situation the dogs are in here. He is surprised to see the dogs kept as pets by humans. More surprised to see that all the dogs are obeying the humans. Now once this reports reaches the planet Serious, all the dogs would be called back. There will not be any dogs on earth. If this is to be avoided, when the chiefs visit earth to check out, dogs should be able to convince that they are in command. Owen is sad with the thought that he might loose his only friend Hubble.

So Hubble and Owen decide to work together train and teach all the dogs. Hubble teaches all of them the way the dogs are behaving on the planet Serious. We need to watch the Movie to see how much they are successful and if Hubble gets to live with Owen or not.

The movie is really good and a must watch for kids. The story is really well written and all the dogs have really played the roles very well. While watching the movie, we are amazed by the great job done by the trainers. Owen is played very well by the boy too.

ट्युसडे विथ मॉरी (Tuesdays with Morrie)

मीच हा एक पत्रकार असतो. हा स्पोर्ट्स बद्दल एका मोठ्या वर्तमानपत्रात एक कॉलम लिहित असतो आणि हा कॉलम खूप लोकप्रिय असतो. रोज एक कॉलम लिहियचा म्हणजे कामाचे प्रेशर हे असतेच. शिवाय आधी मुलाखत घ्यायची किंवा गेम बघायचा मग कॉलम लिहायचा म्हणजे त्याला इतर काही करायला काहीच वेळ नसतो. याचे एक जेनीन नावाच्या गायीकेवर प्रेम असते. हे दोघे ७ ते ८ वर्षापासून प्रेमात पडलेले असतात, पण लग्न काही केलेले नसते. जेनीनला वाटत असते कि आता लग्न करून संसार करावा, असं नुसतंच किती दिवस घालवायचे, पण मीच हा लग्नाला होकार देण्यात खूप चालढकल करत असतो. शेवटी जेनीन खूप वैतागते आणि ती म्हणते कि नक्की काय प्रोब्लेम आहे तो सांग म्हणजे तिला काय तो निर्णय घेता येईल. मीच म्हणतो की मला तू खूप आवडतेस पण लग्न मला करायचे नाही. आणि माझे दुसऱ्या कोणाबरोबर प्रेम देखील नाही.
थोडक्यात या दोघांचे संबध लग्न या विषयावरून जरा ताणले जातात.

मीच हा पत्रकार असल्याने त्याला सतत, टीवी बघणे, फोनवर बोलणे, किंवा कॉम्पुटरवर लिहित राहणे या शिवाय काहीच करायला फुरसत नसते. तो असाच टीवी चॅनेल बदलत असताना त्याला त्याच्या एका प्रोफेसरची मुलाखत लागलेली दिसते. ती ऐकून तो एकदम स्तब्ध होतो. कारण त्याच्या प्रोफेसरला एक असाध्य रोग झालेला असतो. त्या रोगाचे नाव  ALS "Lou Gehrig's disease". या रोगामध्ये एक एक अवयव लुळे पडत जातात आणि मग शेवटी माणूस मरतो. प्रोफेसर मॉरी, हा सोशॅलॉजीचा प्रोफेसर असतो. खूप चांगला शिक्षक असतो. मीच हा त्याचा लाडका विद्यार्थी असतो. जेव्हा मीच ग्रॅजुएट होतो तेव्हा मीचने त्याला वचन दिलेले असते कि काही झाले तरी तो मॉरीच्या इमेल, फोन किंवा पत्र या रूपाने सतत संबधात राहील. पण गेल्या १६ वर्षात मीच त्याच्या कामाच्या व्यापात इतका बुडून गेलेला असतो कि मीचला याला एक पत्र पाठवायला देखील वेळ मिळालेला नसतो.

आता तर मॉरी मरणाच्या दारात आहेत असे मीचला कळते. मीच खूप गोंधळतो, त्याला स्वत:ची खूप लाज वाटते. पण शेवटी जेनीनच्या सांगण्यावरून मीच मॉरीच्या घरी जातो. मॉरी हा बोस्टनला राहत असतो, तर मीच हा डेट्रॉइटला. त्यामुळे मॉरी आणि मीचचे गाव तसे जवळ नसते. तिथे गेल्यावर मॉरी, मीचला लगेच ओळखतो. मीचला समजते की जरी मॉरी मरणाच्या दारात आहे तरीही त्याचा उत्साह कमी झालेला नाही. एकदा मॉरीला भेटून परत येऊ अशा विचारात आलेला मीच मॉरीला भेटल्यावर पुन्हा त्याला भेटायला यायचे असे ठरवतो.

इकडे त्याचे आणि जेनीनचे संबध तुटायला येतात, मॉरीशी बोलल्यावर आयुष्य किती महत्वाचे आहे हे त्याला कळते. मॉरी जेव्हा शिकवत असतो तेव्हा त्याचे ऑफिस अवर्स हे मंगळवारी असतात. त्यानुसार मॉरी त्याला सांगतो कि तू मला दर मंगळवारी भेटत जा. प्रत्येक भेटीत मॉरीचे आयुष्य मीच समोर उलगडत जाते. मॉरी बरोबर राहून मीचला इतके काही शिकायला मिळते, ते बघून मीचच्या मनात एक कल्पना येते कि मॉरी गेल्यावर देखील मॉरीने सांगितलेल्या गोष्टी ऐकता याव्या म्हणून तो मॉरी जे काही बोलेले ते रेकॉर्ड करून घेतो. मीच विषयाची यादी बनवतो आणि मग या प्रत्येक गोष्टीवर मॉरी त्याची मत सांगतो. सिनेमाचा शेवट अर्थातच मॉरीचे मरण इथे होतो. पण मॉरीच्या जवळ आल्यावर मीच चे आयुष्य कसे बदलते, जेनीन आणि मीचचे संबध सुधारतात का? मॉरी चे तत्वज्ञान नक्की काय सांगते हे बघा "ट्युसडे विथ मॉरी" मध्ये.

सिनेमा खऱ्या गोष्टीवर आधारित आहे. १९९४ मध्ये मॉरीला हा रोग झाला आणि त्यानंतर जवळपास एक वर्ष ते या रोगात हळूहळू जळत गेले. मीच अल्बोम याने खरच सगळ्या गोष्टी रेकॉर्ड करून घेतल्या आणि त्यावर नंतर मग एक पुस्तक लिहिले. त्या पुस्तकानंतर त्याचे सिनेमात रुपांतर झाले. शिवाय याच पुस्तकावर आधारित एक नाटक देखील आहे. सिनेमा खूप म्हणजे खूप सुंदर आहे. सगळ्यांनी जरूर बघावा असा. या सिनेमाचा शोध आम्हाला लागला तो असा, आम्ही रोबिन शर्मा ने लिहिलेले "हु विल क्राय व्हेन यु डाय" हे पुस्तक वाचले त्या पुस्तकात या सिनेमाचा उल्लेख आहे. तो उल्लेख बघून सहज ट्युसडे विथ मॉरीचे ऑडीयो
बुक आणले आणि ते ऐकल्यावर वाटले कि सिनेमा पण बघायलाच हवा. सिनेमा बघून खरच खूप छान वाटले. एकदम वेगळ्या विषयावरील सुंदर सिनेमा आहे, जरूर बघावा असा. सगळ्या कुटुंबाबरोबर बघण्यास हरकत नाही.

Mitch is a famous Sports reporter. His Sports column for a leading newspaper is really famous. But columnists are constantly under pressure, since they have to cover so many events. It also involves a lot of travel and watching games. His life is so much occupied by this that he hardly gets time for himself. He has been enjoying it. But he is in love with Janine. Janine is a budding singer. They have been seeing each other for 7-8 years, and are at a stage of deciding to get married and settle. Janine is getting impatient about it and Mitch is intersted but is not getting time to go through all this. At one point Janine directly probes Mitch on this issue. She kind of issues him an ultimatum, to either explain the problems so she is free to decide for herself or commit the marriage. Mitch explains that he loves only her and there is no one in his life, but he is not ready for marriage. This puts some more tension between the two.

Mitch being in journalism profession has to spend a long time watching games on TV, talk on phone and write notes in his computer. While browsing through the TV channels he stops at one channel which is showing a interview with a Professor. He is shocked to hear this, since the person being interviewed is his own mentor when he was in University. Now he is suffering with ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease. In this disease, one by one the body organs stop functioning, and ultimately the person dies. Professor Morrie Schwartz is a very popular sociology professor and Mitch is one of his pet students. At the time of graduation Mitch promises him that he will always keep in touch with him. But Mitch has not at all kept his promise and not contacted him even once in the last sixteen years since he graduated from university. 

On the sad news about Professor Morrie illness shakes Mirch. He is utterly confused and ashamed of him for not contacting Morri even once. Finally in consultation with Janine, Mitch decides to see Morrie once. Mitch is based in Detroit and Morrie is in Boston, but still Mitch makes a trip to Boston to see him. When he goes to see Morri his plan was to see him once before he dies, bit when he sees Morrie, his thoughts change. First thing Morrie recognize Mitch in first sight. Though he is on his death bed, his enthusiasm has not died and his will to teach is very much alive. Mitch decides to see him once again in a weeks time.

Mitch and Janine are almost on verge of a break up, but while talking to Morrie Mirch realities the importance of human relations and how one should maintain the relations. When Mitch was his student, they had office hours togetehr on Tuesdays so they decide to meet every Tuesday. Mitch takes a break form his job and follows up Morrie with regular visits. They start discussing on different things in life and Mitch start to learn a lot of things for Morrie about his life and life in general. Mitch decides to record the conversations so that they will continue to teach and enthuse people in their lifes. Morrie makes a list of topics to be covered and covers each one in every weekly meeting. What was covered in thes meetings ? What happens to the relationsdhip between Mirch and Jane ? we need to watch in the movie Tuesday's with Morrie.

The movie is based on real life story. Prof. Morrie actually suffered the illness in 1994 and died after a year. And Mitch Albom, one of his journalist student recorded his experiences and converted into a best seller book with the same title. THis was later converted into the movie. This is a must watch movie. We learned about this through Robin Sharma's bestseller book "Who will cry when you die" This book has recomemned "Tuesday's with Morrie" as one of the must read books. This is a really good family movie and do not miss it.
