जॉर्जे बेली याचे स्वप्न असते कि सगळे जग फिरायचे त्यासाठी त्याचे लहानपणापासून प्रयत्न सुरु असतात. त्याला परदेशात शिकायची संधी मिळते आणि अचानक त्याचे वडील स्वर्गवासी होतात. वडिलांची छोटीशी बँक असते. त्या बँकेमुळे बऱ्याच गरीब लोकांन्ना फायदा झालेला असतो. आता बँक कोण चालवणार असा प्रश्न पडतो. शेवटी जॉर्जे परदेशात जाण्याचे रहित करून बँक चालवण्याचे ठरवतो. त्याचे मेरीशी लग्न होते. दोघे मिळून बँक चालवतात. हा भावाला शिकायला पाठवतो आणि त्याला असे वाटते कि भाऊ शिकून आला कि बँक सांभाळेल आणि मग आपण जग फिरून येऊ. पण भाऊ सैन्यात जातो त्यामुळे त्याची हि इच्छा पण पूर्ण होत नाही. त्याला त्या दरम्यान ४ मुले होतात. सगळे ठीक सुरु असते, आणि त्याच दरम्यान त्याने जमा केलेले पैसे जे मोठ्या बँकेत जमा करायचे असतात, ते त्याच्या सहकार्याकडून चोरीला जातात. ८००० डॉलर हरवल्याने जॉर्जे वेडापिसा होतो. घरी येऊन खूप वैतागतो, बाहेर जाऊन दारू पितो आणि शेवटी रागाच्या भरात आत्महत्या करण्याचे ठरवतो. तो आत्महत्या करणार तितक्यात त्याचे रक्षण करणारा देवदूत येतो आणि तो त्याला आत्महत्येच्या विचारातून परावृत्त करण्याचा प्रयत्न करतो. तो त्याला कसा परावृत्त करतो हे बघण्यासारखे आहे. त्यातच खरी जान आहे सिनेमाची. सारांशात देवदूत त्याला सांगतो कि कसा प्रत्येक जण दुसऱ्याच्या आयुष्याला स्पर्श करून जातो. प्रत्येक माणूस जगात असणे किती महत्वाचे आहे. मेरी आणि जॉर्जेच्या प्रेमप्रकरणाच्या वेळेस अतिशय मजेशीर वाटणारा सिनेमा उत्तरार्धात एकदम गंभीर वळण घेतो आणि आयुष्याचे ज्ञान अगदी सोप्या प्रसंगातून सांगून जातो. क्लासिक म्हणता येईल असा सिनेमा आहे. कुठल्याही पिढीला हा क्लासिक वाटेल असाच सिनेमा आहे. सिनेमा खूप जुना आहे, जुना म्हणजे अगदी माझ्या जन्माच्या खूप आधीचा, पण अतिशय सुंदर आहे. सगळ्यांनी जरूर बघावा असा. तुम्हाला सगळ्यांना हा सिनेमा अगदी आवडेलच.
It's a Wonderful Life, is a story of an enthusiastic young man George Belly. Right from childhood, he has an ambition of traveling around the world. He is preparing right from childhood, saving money and gathering information. He plans to study abroad on completing his high school. But an unfortunate event happens, his father dies. That changes his life. He passes on all his savings for studies to his younger brother. He takes over his father’s bank and wants to rung it till his brother finishes his education and takes it over.
By the time his brother finishes education; he gets married and gets a very good job in research. Again George is in dilemma. Decides to let his brother build his career and continues his bank work. There is a rival Mr. Potter, who wants to take over the back, because the good work of bank is helping many people have their own houses and Potter is loosing business of renting houses to them.
At a unfortunate moment, Potter succeeds in pushing George to point of bankrupts. The movie takes an interesting turn. Ever smiling cheerful George gets frustrated in life and tries to suicide. The remaining part needs to be watched to get the motivation and enjoyment of it.
Voted #1 most inspirational file by AFI, a must see for all.
