फिलाडेल्फिया (Philadelphia)

अॅन्ड्रु बेकेट हा एक अत्यंत हुशार वकील असतो. तो एका मोठ्या कंपनीत लॉ कंपनीत नोकरी करीत असतो. केंदाल कनस्ट्र्कशन नावाच्या कंपनीची एक खूप मोठी केस तो जिंकून देतो. त्यामुळे केंदाल कंपनीकडून यांच्या फर्मला बरेच पैसे मिळतात. त्यामुळे खुश होऊन त्या कंपनीचा मुख्य मॅनेजिंग डायरेक्टर अॅन्ड्रुला त्यांच्या बोर्ड ऑफ डायरेक्टर मध्ये घेण्याचे ठरवतो. त्याला बोर्डात घेतल्या बद्दल एक पार्टी सुरु असते. त्या पार्टीमध्ये एका डायरेक्टरला दिसते की अॅन्ड्रुच्या डोक्यावर काही जखमा आहेत व या जखमा दुसर्या-तिसर्या काही नसून एड्सच्या आहेत. तेव्हाच कंपनीतील लोकांना कळते की अॅन्ड्रु हा समलिंग आहे व त्यामुळे त्याला एड्स झालेला आहे. याच दरम्यान अॅन्ड्रुकडे एका मोठ्या कंपनीची केस असते. या केसची तारीख व अॅन्ड्रुची डॉक्टरांकडील अपॉईन्टमेंट यांची तारीख एकाच येते. त्यामुळे अॅन्ड्रु केसचे सगळे पेपर्स तयार करून त्याच्या सेक्रेटरीला ते पेपर्स एका ज्युनियर वकिलाला द्यायला सांगतो. पण अॅन्ड्रु जेव्हा डॉक्टरांकडे असतो तेव्हा त्याला कंपनीतून फोन येतो की सगळे केस पेपर्स गायब झाले आहेत आणि आता ते कोणालाच सापडत नाहीत.अॅन्ड्रुचा विश्वास असतो की, त्याला एड्स झालेला आहे व तो समलिंगी आहे हे समजल्यामुळे त्याला कंपनीतून काढून टाकण्यासाठी काहीतरी कारण हवे म्हणून हा घोळ करण्यात आलेला आहे. असाच प्रसंग पुन्हा एकदा घडतो.
 
त्यानंतर अॅन्ड्रुला त्याच्या हलगर्जी बद्दल कंपनीतून काढून टाकण्यात येते. आजवर सगळे लोक त्याच्याशी चांगले वागत असतात, अचानक असे का झाले याचे कारण अॅन्ड्रुला माहिती असते. तो कंपनीविरुद्ध केस लढवण्याचे ठरवतो. पण त्याचा वकील म्हणून कोणीच तयार होत नाही. सगळ्यांना एड्स झालेल्या व्यक्तीशी संबध ठेवायचे नसतात. केंदाल कंपनीच्या विरुद्ध केस लढताना जो वकील त्याच्या विरुद्ध उभा ठाकतो तो "जो मिलर" एक खूप चांगला वकील आहे असे अॅन्ड्रुचे मत असते. त्यामुळे अॅन्ड्रु त्याला विनंती करतो की त्याने अॅन्ड्रुची केस लढवावी. पण जोचे मत देखील इतर लोकांसारखेच असते. पण तो थोडासा वेगळा असतो. तो डॉक्टरकडे जाऊन एड्स बद्दल माहिती गोळा करतो. पण तरीही केस लढवावी असे तो ठरवत नाही.

एकदा अॅन्ड्रु लायब्ररीत जाऊन एड्स ची माहिती गोळा करत असतो, ते बघून तेथील लोक त्याच्याकडे विचित्र नजरेने बघतात व त्याच्या पासून दूर जाऊन बसतात. नेमक्या त्याच वेळी जो तिथे येतो. अॅन्ड्रुने गोळा केलेली माहिती बघतो व त्याच्या लक्षात येते की अॅन्ड्रु हा आता स्वत: केस लढणार आहे. त्या क्षणी जो ठरवतो की आपण या माणसाची मदत करायला हवी. मग तो अॅन्ड्रुची केस लढवायला तयार होतो. जो जसा जसा अॅन्ड्रुच्या सहवासात येतो तसा तसा तो अॅन्ड्रु मुळे खूप प्रभावित होतो. अॅन्ड्रुचा पार्टनर मिगेल अल्वारेज याच्याशी पण जो ची ओळख होते. अॅन्ड्रुच्या पाठीमागे मिगेलची काळजी घेता येईल अशी तजवीज करत असतो, हे देखील जो ला समजते. अॅन्ड्रुच्या घरच्यांशी त्याची ओळख होते. एकूण अॅन्ड्रु याला जरी एड्स झाला असला तरी हा माणूस म्हणून खूप उत्तम आहे याची जो ला खात्री पटते. तो एकदम मनापासून अॅन्ड्रुची केस लढतो. जो अॅन्ड्रुची केस जिंकतो का? एकूण जो ला काय अनुभव येतात ? अॅन्ड्रु कसा चैतन्यमान व्यक्ती असतो हे "फिलाडेल्फिया" बघितल्याशिवाय समजणे  शक्य नाही.

सिनेमा अतिशय सुंदर आहे. टॉम हॅन्क्स ही भूमिका अक्षरशः जागला आहे. सुरवातीचा तब्येतीने चांगला असणारा  अॅन्ड्रु  व नंतर वजन कमी झालेला  अॅन्ड्रु हा खरच टॉम हॅन्क्सने उत्तम उभारला आहे. त्यासाठी त्याने खरच त्याचे वजन कमी केले होते असे मी वाचले होते. लोक खरच झालेल्या रोगांमुळे एखाद्या चांगल्या व्यक्तीवर कसा अन्याय करतात हे या सिनेमात खूप सुंदर दाखविले आहे. त्याचबरोबर, सगळ्या प्रकारच्या माणसांना समाजाने सामावून घेतले पाहिजे असे अगदी प्रकर्षाने सांगणारा हा सिनेमा वाटला. सिनेमात तसे वाईट दृश्य खास नाहीत. पण सिनेमा तसा जड विषयाला धरून असल्याने खूप लहान मुलांना दाखवू नये असे माझे मत आहे. पण थोडी समंजस झालेल्या मुलांनी हा बघायला काही हरकत नाही.

Andrew Beckett is a very bright and skillful lawyer. He is a very hard working man. He is working for a very famous Law firm. He wins a very prestigious case for a company called Kendal Constructions. This earn a lot of money for his company and the managing director of the law firm promotes him to the board of directors. During the party to celebrate his success and induction to the board of directors, one of the directors notices some wounds on his Andrew's head. He quickly figures out that they are due to AIDS, and all in the company realize that Andrew is gay and is suffering with AIDS.

Andrew is working on another very important case during this period. Unfortunately his doctor appointment and case hearing are on the same date. Andrew carefully prepares the papers and hand over to his secretory to pass them on to another lawyer of his firm to submit in the court. and leaves for his doctor appointment. But while he was at the doctor's place he receives a phone call telling him the papers are missing and no one was bale to trace them later. Andrew is convinced that this is plot to remove him form the company since his directors have found out that he is gay and suffering with AIDS. Someone has purposely done this to get a reason against him. Similar incidence is repeated and he is removed for his company.

Everyone in the company has been really good with him earlier. So Andrew is upset with this sudden change and decides file a case against his company. No finding a lawyer who can take up his case is challenging. Lawyers are not willing to take his case because he is suffering with AIDS and also they have to fight a big law firm. Now Andrew approached Joe Miller who was the opposing lawyer in the Kendal case. Andrew knew Joe was a really nice person and a good lawyer too. Joe denies this deal, but he approached a doctor and get more information on AIDS. He is still undecided to commit to Andrew's case. 

Once Andrew is in Library trying to get more information about AIDS for the case. All the people around are keeping distance form Andrew. Joe happens to go to the library and sees this. He realizes that Andrew is planning to defend his case himself, and at that point Joe decides to help him out. 

As he start interacting with Andrew, he learn a lot about Andrew. He is impressed by his thoughts and personality. Miguel Alvarez is Andrew's partner. One of the reasons Andrew wants to win this case is to provide backup for his partner Miguel after Andrew's death. Joe also gets to meet and interact with Andrew's family. They are all very nice people and even though Andrew is suffering with AIDS, Joe learn how well meaning and good nature Andrew is. After that Joe really start putting his mind and soul in this case, 

Does Andrew win the case ? What all he learns about life in this process ? It is definitely worth watching the powerful person Andrew is. The movie is really good and Tom Hanks is too good in the role of Andrew. His initial days when is is reasonable healthy and later on really sick person. looks like Tom Hanks has actually reduced his weight for this movie. This movie also shows how people change after learning that Andrew has AIDS. People do not think much even being unreasonable to a long time friend since he is suffering now. The movie covers this very sensitive topic with a lot of elegance. Though there are no scenes really inappropriate for children, looking at the topic, very small children should avoid this but good for growing sensible children.

द मॅन विथ वन रेड शु (The man with one Red Shoe)

रिचर्ड हा एक साधाभोळा व्हायोलीन वादक असतो. त्याचा मित्र त्याची थट्टा करण्याकरता त्याचा एक बूट लपवतो. त्यामुळे रिचर्डला दोन वेगळेच बूट घालून विमानातून प्रवास करावा लागतो. त्यामुळे त्याच्या एका पायात लाल रंगाचा स्पोर्ट बूट व दुसऱ्या पायात एक फॉर्मल शु असतो. असा विचित्र वेश करून विमानातून परत येत असताना त्याच्या समोर मॅडी नावाची एक सुस्वरूप ललना येते. हि मॅडी खर तर सी आई ए ची एजंट असते. हा मनुष्य नक्की कोण आहे हे बघण्यासाठी ती त्याला मिठी वगेरे पण मारते. रिचर्डला खूप आश्चर्य वाटते, पण याचे बघता क्षणीच तिच्या वर प्रेम होते.

कुपर आणि रॉस हे दोघे सीआईएच्या डिरेक्टर पदासाठीचे उमेदवार असतात. रॉसला शर्यतीतून मागे खेचण्यासाठी कुपर खोटी केस रचतो आणि त्यात रॉस हवा तो रिझल्ट आणू शकत नाही आणि त्यामुळे रॉसची प्रतिमा खराब होते. रॉसला समजते की हा सगळा उद्योग कुपरने केला आहे. आता त्याला काटशह देण्याकरता म्हणून रॉस अशी हूल उठवतो की आता खूप मोठा कोकेनचा माल अमेरिकेत येणार आहे आणि त्याच्या मागे असलेला सूत्रधार म्हणजे ज्या मनुष्याने एकाच लाल बूट घातला आहे तो आहे. आता रॉसची टीम आणि कुपरची एकमेकांवर कुरघोडी करण्याकरता रिचर्डच्या मागे लागतात. पण रिचर्ड हा खरोखरीच एक पापभिरू मनुष्य असतो. कोणालाच त्याच्या रेकोर्ड मध्ये काहीच वाईट आढळून येत नाही. मग त्याच्या घरी नकळत जाऊन, त्याच्यावर पाळत ठेवण्यासाठी काही गोष्टी ठेवतात.

इकडे रिचर्ड मॅडीच्या प्रेमात पडल्यामुळे, मॅडी जिथे जिथे दिसेल तिथे तिच्या मागे मागे जातो. शेवटी कुपर मॅडीला म्हणतो की रिचर्डला प्रेमाच्या जाळ्यात ओढ आणि त्याच्या कडून सगळी माहिती काढून आण. कुपर त्याच्या मिशन मध्ये यशस्वी होतो का ? रॉस आणि कुपर यांच्यातील कोण सी आई ए चा डिरेक्टर होते ? मॅडी आणि रिचर्ड पुढे काय होते हे बघा द मॅन विथ वन रेड शु मध्ये.

सिनेमा खूपच विनोदी आहे. टॉम हॅन्क्सचे जे काही चित्रपट लायब्ररीत मिळतील ते बघायचे, असे धोरण ठेवल्याने हा सिनेमा मिळाला. अर्थात हा सिनेमा बघितला नसता तरी काही हरकत नव्हती. डोके बाजूला काढून ठेवले तर निखळ करमणूक आहे. सगळे विनोद एकदम झकास जमले आहेत. टॉम हॅन्क्स या सिनेमात अगदीच पोरगेलासा आहे. पण त्याचा अभिनय उत्तम आहे.

Richard is a violin artist and is very simple guy. Once on a performance tour, one of his friends hides one each of his two shoes. So finally Richard travels on flight with two different shoes in his feet. One red sports shoe and another formal leather shoe. While exiting out of airport he bumps on Maddy a very hot airport girl. But in reality she is a CIA agent. She is conning all this to figure out who this strange guy is with a red shoe. Richard falls for her in their very brief encounter.

Cooper and Ross and competing for getting CIA directors post and to win over Ross, Cooper plots a false case and makes sure that is assigned to Ross. Ross is not able to deliver results, so his image is tarnished. Ross learns that this was all plotted by Cooper, so now he plots another case. Richard is picked up by them due to his strange shoe style that day. 

Now both the teams and trying to follow every movement of Richard. They bug Rishard's house, thoroughly check it in his absence. But Richard is so innocent that nothing could be found or proved. In this process Richard keeps bumping on Maddy several times. Most of the times purposefully plotted. They realize that he is falling for her and then plan to use that and make Maddy act as if she is also in love. What happens next between them ? Who is successful in the race. Who becomes next director of CIA needs to be watched in the movie The Man with a Red Shoe.

This movie is a good comedy. We got to watch this because we like Tom Hanks and we are trying to watch all his movies. If you like comedies or fan of Tom Hanks, you should not miss this movie. Tom looks very young in this movie and as usual his acting has his own class.

मेझेस अॅन्ड मॉनस्टर (Mazes and Monster)

रॉबी हा कॉलेज मध्ये जाणारा मुलगा असतो. त्याची आई दारुडी आणि वडील खूप कडक शिस्तीचे असतात. व याचा एक लहान भाऊ हॅलोवीनच्या दिवशी घरातून पळून गेलेला असतो. याला याच्या भावाची खूप आठवण येत असते व तो नक्की का सोडून गेला हे त्याला माहित नसल्याने अतिशय दुख झालेले असते. रॉबीला कोलेज मध्ये त्याच्या सारखेच काही मित्र भेटतात. केट फ्लींच हि मुलगी खूप हुशार असते, तिचे पुढे जाऊन लेखिका होण्याचे स्वप्नं असते. हिचे वडिलांवर खूप प्रेम असते, पण वडील तिला व तिच्या आईला सोडून जातात. त्यामुळे ही खूप दुखी असते. डॅनियलचे आईवडील त्याचे ग्राफिक डीझायनरचे स्वप्नं अमान्य करतात. आईवडिलांना दिलेल्या नकारामुळे हा दुखी असतो. जेजे नावाच्या मुलाची आई इंटेरियर डेकोरेटर असते. ती सारखे ह्याची खोली बदलत असते. त्याचा याला खूप वैताग आलेला असतो. जेजे जवळ एक पक्षी असतो. त्याचे नाव मार्लिन. तो पक्षीच काय जेजेला समजून घेऊ शकतो असे त्याला वाटत असते. तर असे हे चौघे या न त्या कारणाने दुखी असलेले जीव एकत्र येतात. त्यात भरीस भर म्हणून त्या चौघांना देखील मेझेस अॅन्ड मॉनस्टर या खेळाचे वेड असते.

तर हा खेळ असा असतो, की यात प्रत्येकाने एक एक कल्पनेतील पात्र रंगवायचे. या पात्रांकडे काही जादू असू शकते व त्या जादू द्वारे ते त्यांना येणारे प्रश्न सोडवू शकतात. आता हे दुखी झालेले जीव या खेळातून त्यांच्या सगळ्या प्रश्नांची उत्तरे शोधण्याचा प्रयत्न करत असतात. चौघांच्याही घरातील सगळ्या लोकांना त्यांच्या मुलांचे ह्या खेळाबद्दलच वेड माहिती असते. त्यामुळे घरातील सगळे त्यांना कॉलेज मध्ये जाताना हा खेळ खेळू नका असे सांगतात. चौघेही हो म्हणतात, पण हे एकत्र आल्यावर, खेळ खेळल्याशिवाय त्यांना चैन पडत नाहीत. तर एकदा असाच खेळ खेळत असताना जेजेला एक कल्पना सुचते. तो म्हणतो की हा खेळ खेळण्याच्या ऐवजी जर आपण एका गुहेत जाऊन हा खेळ खेळलो तर त्याला खऱ्या खेळासारखी मज्जा येईल. सगळे त्याला होकार देतात. आणि ते चौघेही त्या गुहेत जाऊन हा खेळ खेळतात.

मग चौघांना गुहेत जाऊन खेळ खेळण्याची चट लागते. असेच सुरु असताना एक दिवस अचानक रॉबी गायब होतो. हे तिघे गुहेत त्याचा शोध घेतात, पण त्यांना काही रॉबी सापडत नाही. मग ते घाबरून पोलिसांना खबर देतात. पण पोलिसांना देखील तो सापडत नाही. आणि या तिघांना खात्री असते की रॉबी इतका भित्रा नाहीये, जो आत्महत्या करू शकेल. त्यामुळे या तिघांचा रॉबीला शोधण्याचा शोध सुरु होतो. शेवटी रॉबी, या तिघांना सापडतो का, तो नक्की काय करत असतो ? हे बघा "मेझेस अॅन्ड मॉनस्टर" मध्ये.


सिनेमा ठीक आहे. सुरवातीला वाटत कि हा एक खूप थरारपट असेल तर तसे नाहीये. या सिनेमात टॉम हॅन्क्स अगदी मिसरूड फुटलेला तरुण मुलगा आहे. सिनेमा अगदी आवर्जून बघावा असा नाही.

Robie is a college going boy. His mother has drinking problem and dad is very strict. His brother has gone missing a few years back on Halloween day. He was very fond of his brother and always remembers him. He always keeps thinking about the unknown reason for his brothers leaving the house. Robie joins college and makes some friends. Kate Flinch is a very bright girl. She has an ambition of becoming a author. She really loved her father, but he leaves her and her mother one day. This was one of the disturbing thing in her life. Daniel has a dream of becoming a graphic designer. His parents are not in favor of that. JJ's mother is an interior designer and and keeps changing the layout of his room. He is unhappy with this change in the room. He has a pet bird called Marlin. JJ believes that only Marlin can understand and appreciate his feelings. These four people come together in the college and realize all of them share a passion for the game Mazes and monsters.

This is an interesting game where each player creates a character and develops it. This characters have magic powers and they solve the problems using them. These four spend a lot of time playing this game and really get immersed into it. Their family members are all aware of the kids passion for the game, but are under the impression that after entering the college they will not have time to play the game and also may not find partners. The family members have warned them against playing the games, and they agree, but once in college, they can not resist the passion and fortunately land up in company of other passionate members. They also create small models of the characters and play with them. While they are enjoying the game, JJ gets an exciting idea. There was a cave near the college campus. they decide to play the game in the cave, for more fun and expecting all round experience. They really enjoy the game there in the cave.

They had so much fun in the cave that they get addicted playing it there. During one of these sessions Robie goes missing. Over past few days he has been behaving bit erratic. They search for him for really long time but could not find him. Finally they inform police and a major search operation is launched. This operation too fails. The three friends are sure that Robie is alive and has not committed suicide or something. Where the search leads them and what they find out about Robie needs to be seen in the movie.

The movie is good but not that much a thriller. Tom Hanks looks really young and like a teenager. Do write comments about the movie of you have seen and about the review.

यु हॅव गॉट मेल (You've Got mail)

 कॅथलीन केली नावाची एक सुंदर आकर्षक, हुशार, स्वतंत्र मुलगी एक लहान मुलांचे पुस्तकाचे दुकान चालवत असते. हे दुकान तिच्या आईने सुरु केलेले असते. हे दुकान मुख्य म्हणजे वस्तीत अगदी कोपऱ्यावर असते. त्यामुळे हे दुकान खूप प्रसिद्ध असते. हि ६ वर्षाची असल्यापासून दुकानात आईला मदत करायला येत असते. त्यामुळे हिचे आयुष्य हा पुस्तकाच्या दुकानाशी निगडीत असते. या दुकानाशिवाय तिला दुसरे काहीच सुचत नाही. दुकानात आता अजून ३ लोक काम करत असतात. त्यात एक बर्डी नावाची म्हातारी स्त्री, जी कॅथलीनच्या आईच्या वेळेपासून दुकानात असते, जॉर्ज, आणि अजून एक मुलगी असे तिघे हे दुकान सांभाळत असतात. कॅथलीनने खूप पुस्तक वाचलेली असतात.

तर ह्या दुकानाच्या समोरच एक मोठा उद्योगपती ज्यो फॉक्स हा एक असेच पुस्तकांचे दुकान काढण्याचा प्रयत्न करतो. याचे दुकान खूप मोठे, सगळ्या सुखसोयी, कॉफी, खायला काही गोष्टी, शिवाय ३०% डिस्काउंट देणार असते. थोडक्यात हिचे दुकान बंद होणार अशी चिन्ह असतात.


अमेरिकन पद्धतीप्रमाणे हिचा एक बॉयफ्रेंड असतो. ते दोघे एकाच घरात राहत असतात. तो एक लेखक असतो. दोघं चांगले मित्र असतात. पण तरीही एकदा कॅथलीन इंटरनेट वर ३०+ च्या चाट रूम मध्ये जाते आणि तिची एका व्यक्तीशी ओळख होते. ते दोघे एकमेकांना इमेल करतात. त्यांचे असे ठरलेले असते, कि काही प्रायव्हेट प्रश्न विचारायचे नाहीत. पण एकूण तुमच्या मनातील प्रश्न एकमेकांबरोबर शेअर करायचे, म्हणजे हितगुज करायचे. आणि एकमेकांना भेटायला पण बोलावयाचे नाही. कथालीन shopgirl नावाने लॉगइन करत असल्याने हिचे खरे नाव कळत नाही तसेच हिचा इंटरनेट वरील मित्र NY152 या नावाने लॉगइन करत असल्याने हिलाही त्याचे नाव कळत नाही. दोघे जण एकमेकांच्या इमेलची अगदी आतुरतेने वाट बघत असतात. रोज एकमेकांना त्यांच्या जीवनातील घडामोडी सांगत असतात. काय वाचले, त्यातील काय आवडले, काय आवडले नाही, अश्या बऱ्याच गोष्टी सांगत असतात.

फॉक्स स्टोर मुळे कॅथलीन केलीच्या पुस्तकाच्या दुकानाच्या अस्तित्वाचा प्रश्न निर्माण होतो, त्यामुळे चिंतीत कॅथलीन NY152 ला भेटायचे ठरवते. एका रेस्टॉरँट मध्ये वाट बघत बसते, पण NY152 काही येत नाही. त्याच्या ऐवजी ज्यो फॉक्स येतो आणि त्या दोघांची दुकानावरून बाचाबाची होते. ही बराच वेळ वाट बघून घरी परत जाते, आणि त्याला इमेल करते. शेवटी हा इमेल करणारा नक्की कोण असतो? कॅथलीनच्या दुकानाचे काय होते हे बघा "यु गॉट मेल" मध्ये.

हा सिनेमा जेव्हा डायल अप कनेक्शन होते तेव्हाचा आहे. त्यामुळे चाट, इमेल हे सगळे नवीन होते. इंटरनेट कनेक्ट करताना होणारा मॉडेमचा आवाज सगळे कसे पुरातन वाटते. पण सिनेमा चांगला आहे. टॉम हॅन्क्सचे बहुतेक सगळेच सिनेमे वेगळ्या धाटणीचे असतात. तसाच हा आहे. कॅथलीनची भूमिका करणर्या मेग रायनने पण काम खूप चांगले केले आहे. टोम हन्क्स जेव्हा त्याच्या बरोबर आलेल्या लहान मुलांची ओळख आन्ट आणि अंकल अशी करून देतो तेव्हा मज्जा वाटते. त्यावर त्याचे "वी आर अमेरिकन फमिली" हे वाक्य खूप समर्पक वाटले.

सिनेमा जरूर बघावा असा आहे. तुमच्या प्रतिक्रिया जरूर लिहा.


Cathaleen Kelly is a good looking, independent and lovable lady. She is running a small bookstore called the Corner Shop in New York. This was started by her mother, but now after her mother, she is running it. It is very popular shop specially among the kids. Cathaleen has been coming to she shop with her mother since she was six years old. In a way the book store is her life, and she always keeps thinking about her shop. There are three employed in the shop, an old accountant Birdie who has been from from her mother time, a funky guy George and a girl who is studying in the college and working in the shop to earn. Cathy has read so many books and has a very good knowledge about the books and authors.

A big shop is being built very near her shop, and it turned out to be a book shop by a big industrialist Fox. Now this new book store is modern one with Coffee and Fast food shop within, big discounts on books etc. In short Cathy's bookstore is in trouble due to this new competition.

Being an American, Cathy has a boyfriend, who is a journalist and author. They are living together and happy. But once while on internet 30+ chat room, she meets a person and they start sending emails to each other. They have an understanding that they will just remain friends like this, and would not get into details of personal life. Rather will discuss issues anonymously and keep friends. Cathy has a chat name Shopgirl and this friend of hers is NY152. But due to some reason, both of them are eagerly waiting for each others emails. And keep discussing things happenings without reveling much details of their lives.

As this Fox store actually opens and Cathy starts feeling the real threat. After few weeks she actually starts comparing sales figures with the previous years and start getting worried. Over email she learns from NY152 that he is a business expert, she decides to meet him in person and discuss her problems. While waiting for NY152, Joe Fox, owner of Fox stores turns up there, and they have a verbal fight there. Finally exhausted by the fight she waits for NY152 and returns home. She emails NY152 her displeasure and frustration. Who is the person emailing her ? Does Cathy able to save her shop? What problems does Joe Fox create ? Watch this in "You got mail".

This movie was made when there still dial-up modems, and email, chat were uncommon things. In the current times it gives a vintage feel. The movie is good, like most movies of Tom Hanks. Meg Ryan as Cathy is too good. In one of the scenes when Tom Hanks introduces two small kids with him as his Aunt and Brother, it is hilarous and on top of it he says "We are a American family".

कास्ट आवे (Cast Away)

एक मोठा, अमेरिकन Executive "चक नोलैंड". हा एक घडयाळाच्या काट्यावर धावणारा मनुष्य असतो. त्याची प्रेयसी PhD विद्यार्थिनी असते. गतिमान जीवन चालू असते. जगभर प्रवास घडत असतो. आणि अशाच एका विमान प्रवासात त्याचे मालवाहक विमान एका वादळात सापडून समुद्रात पड़ते. या विमानातील हा एकटाच अपघातात वाचतो.


जवळच्या एक निर्मनुष्य बेटावर पोचतो. या बेटावर एकलकोंडा कित्येक महीने कसा काढतो याचे फारच सुन्दर चित्रण केले आहे. त्याचे अन्न मिळवणे अणि नवनवीन गोष्टी शिकणे फारच रंजक आहे. एक चेंडुवर स्वतःच्या रक्ताने रंगवून केलेला सोबती व त्याच्याशी संभाषण मन हेलाउन टाकते. शेवटी कंटाळून सुटकेचा प्रयत्न, त्यासाठीची तयारी पाहण्यासारखी आहे.


शेवटी सुटका झाल्यावर लोकांच्या प्रतिक्रिया पण पाहण्यासारख्या आहेत. अनपेक्षित शेवटाने मजा येते. अपघातापुर्विचा हीरो आणि ४ वर्ष एकटाच बेटावर राहील्यानंतरचा हीरो, यात विलक्षण फरक दिसून येतो. टॉम हैंक्स ने त्याच्या शरीरयष्टीत खरोखरच प्रयत्नपूर्वक बदल केला आहे असे दिसून येते. बेटावर पडल्यावर थोड्या वेळाने Fedex ची खोकी येऊ लागतात. तो सगळी खोकी अगदी प्रामाणिकपणे कशी जपून ठेवतो हे देखिल बघण्यासारखे आहे.

या चित्रपटासाठी टॉम हैंक्स ला "Best Actor in Leading Role" चे Nomination 73rd Academy Awards मिळाले होते.


मी स्वतः हा चित्रपट २ दा बघितला आहे, तरीही अजूनही TV वर लागलेला असला तर बघत बसते. २००० सालचा म्हणजे तसा जुना असलेला हा चित्रपट पाहिला नसल्यास जरुर पहावा असा नक्कीच आहे. आणि पाहिला असल्यास प्रतिक्रिया जरून लिहा.

Chuck Noland is a high flying executive, bound to the clock for everything. While flying in a cargo flight, a storm hits and he is the only survivor on an Island. Only exotic things he has are some boxes from the same plane. Alien to the natural world, his survival is a big question mark.

His attempts to get help, his loneliness, struggle for survival are very well portrayed by Tom Hanks. Mind well this movie has one of the most unexpected end you will see.

According to me a 5 star rating, must watch movie.
