अप्पा जगदाळे खूप मोठे राजकारणी. यांची पिंपळगावला खूप जमीन असते. पुणे-मुंबई रस्त्यावर जर सेझ (स्पेशल इकॉनॉमिक झोन) आणला तर तेथील भागाची खूप प्रगती होईल व त्याचबरोबर स्वताला पण बरेच पैसे मिळतील, अश्या विचाराने अप्पासाहेब थडानी नावाच्या मोठ्या व्यावासिकाबरोबर हातमिळवणी करतात. आता याच भागात पिंपळगाव असल्याने तिथली जमीन मिळवणे पण सोपे होणार, आणि सगळ्या भागाचा विकास होणार या कल्पनेने सगळे लोक आनंदाने त्यांची जमीन विकतील असे अप्पासाहेबांना वाटते. अप्पाना एक मुलगी असते, तिचे नाव प्राची. प्राचीचे सगळे शिक्षण अमेरिकेत झालेले असते. अप्पांचे भाऊ, भाऊसाहेब जगदाळे, यांना २ मुले, दीपक व मोहित. दीपकला अप्पांनी स्वताबरोबर राजकारणात घेतले असते. व प्राची पण त्यांच्याकडे राजकारणाचे धडे घेत असते. दीपक हा बाहेरख्याली असतो, शिवाय त्याला जुन्या शस्त्रांचा संग्रह करण्याचा छंद असतो. दीपकचे त्याच्या बायकोबरोबर खास पटत नसते. इकडे मोहित व त्याची बायको निलांबरी हे दोघे खूप सुखी असतात. व निलूला दिवस गेले असल्याने दोघे खूपच खुश असतात.
मोहितने इस्त्रालय मध्ये जाऊन शेतीचे शिक्षण घेऊन इथे आधुनिक प्रकारची शेती करत असतो. व पिंपळगाव मधील सगळ्या शेतकर्यांना देखील आधुनिक शेतीचे ज्ञान देऊन तिथे खूपच प्रगती होते. तेथील माल एक्स्पोर्ट होत असतो. SEZ मुले आता सगळी जमीन थडानीला देणे मोहितला अजिबात पटत नाही.
याच गावात राहणारा अप्पांचा विरोधक कैलाश शिंदे याला देखील हि गोष्ट पटत नाही. आता थडानी सारख्या मोठ्या उद्योगपतीला तोंड द्यायचे म्हणून कैलाश त्यांच्या कार्यकर्त्यांकरवी हिंसेचा मार्ग अवलंबतो. जेव्हा जमिनीचा सर्वे करण्यासाठी जेव्हा लोक येतात तेव्हा हे कार्यकर्ते त्यांना चांगले बडवून काढतात. मोहित कैलाश बरोबर हात मिळवणी करायला जातो. कारण दोघांचा उद्देश एकाच असतो सगळ्या सुपीक जमिनी वाचवणे. पण कैलाश मोहितवर विश्वास ठेवत नाही. व दोघे आपापल्या मार्गाने अप्पाना सगळ्या जमिनी थडानीला देण्यात अडथळे निर्माण करतात. SEZ प्रकरण असे बरेच चिघळत जात असते, आणि चित्रपटाला एकदम कलाटणी मिळते. अप्पाचा एका मॉल मध्ये खून होतो. त्यामुळे SEZ प्रकरण जरा थंड होते व आता पुढे SEZ चे काय होणार असे वाटू लागते. पोलीस अप्पांच्या खुनाचा शोध घ्यायला येतात. या शोधात नक्की काय सापडते, कोणी खून केला असेल, सेझसाठी लागणाऱ्या जमिनी थडानीला मिळतात का हे बघा "मेड इन चायना" मध्ये.
सिनेमा ठीक आहे. SEZ म्हणजे नक्की काय हे या सिनेमातून नीटसे समजत नाही. SEZ नावाचे काहीतरी असते, हे फक्त कळते. सेझ हि संकल्पना चायनाने सुरु केली आहे त्यामुळे या सिनेमाला मेड इन चायना असे नाव देण्यात आले आहे. नावाकडे बघून असे वाटते, कि चीन मधून भारतात एक्स्पोर्ट होणाऱ्या गोष्टीमुळे नक्की काय होतंय, याचे चित्रण असेल, पण तसे काही होत नाही. पूर्वार्धात सुपीक जमिनी जाऊ नये, म्हणून शेतकऱ्यांचा लढा असेल अशी वाटणारी गोष्ट उत्तरार्धात रहस्यकथा वाटायला लागते. सोनीवर बघत असलेला CID कार्यक्रम बघत आहोत कि काय असं वाटू लागते. सिनेमात एकाच गाना आहे, आणि ते पण आता कशाला उद्याची बात चे रिमिक्स. ते काही खूप छान नाही. एकूण सिनेमा ठीक आहे. रहस्यकथा आवडत असेल तर बघावा असा. पण शेवटच्या काही मिनिटात आपण खुनी कोण आहे हे देखील ओळखतो.
अभ्यासू लोकांना जर SEZ बद्दल माहिती हवी असेल तर इथे लिंक दिली आहे. या सिनेमाला मेड इन चायना हे नाव का दिले आहे याचा शोध घेत असताना SEZ बद्दल बरीच माहिती मिळाली. हीच माहिती काही थोड्या संवादातून टाकली असते तर अधिक चांगले झाले असते.
Mohit Jagdale is a progressive farmer is Pimpalgaon. He is staying with his wife Nilambari and Grandmother. Appasaheb Jagdale, his uncle is Politician and Member of Parliament for the region. He is very renowned for his good developmental work in the region. He has one daughter Prachi, who has studied management abroad, and is back to Pimpalgaon to work with her father. Deepak is elder brother of Mohit, who is also in politics with his uncle Appasaheb. Deepak is characterless and treats his wife Yogita is unhappy due to this. Deepak has a hobby for collecting weapons and has a good collection of antic weapons and guns.
Appasaheb decides to get Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to his region, and develops ties with a businessman called Thadani. This needs a huge land of the order of 45 thousand acres for the project. This land needs to be procured from all the farmers of the region. So many families will loose their land and in turn their source of income. As part of the deal, Appasaheb is responsible to handle procurement of the land using his goodwill and political powers. Thadani on the other hand would invest in the infrastructure and develop the industries and townships.
Several people including Mohit are unhappy about this. Another major opposition is from Kailash Shinde, who is opposition politician in the town. His father has disappeared few years back, who was also opposing Appasaheb, and Kailash believes Appasaheb is behind his disappearance. He has a Agriculture supplies business and is worried if the lands are converted into industries, his business will close down. Both Kailash and Mohit have their own setsof supporters.
Bhausaheb, Mohit's father and Appasaheb's brother was a simple man, and respects farming then anything else. After his death Appasaheb supported Mohit and sent him to Israel for further training in agriculture. On his return he told him to take charge of the farmland and transform it into model agriculture. Thadani has been doing business in the region and has been major customer for agricultural and dairy products. Mohit has established modern dairy and poly-house for export oriented Flori-culture. With the new proposal his whole profession is in danger. So he tries to convince Appasaheb against the plan, but he faltly refuses and looses Mohit's respect.
Mohit tries to join hands with Kailash to protest against SEZ. But Kailash does not believe him and refuses to work with him. The whole issue is getting complicated and Appasaheb is killed by a shooter in a mall, while he was inaugurating it. The movie becomes a mystery at this point. Who is the killer ? What happens to the plan of SEZ ? Who succeeds Appasaheb in his political career ?
The movie starts with political movie with a theme of agriculture versus development. It touches issues like should a good fertile and well developed land be converted into industry ? Would people dependent of farmlands as their source of income, get decent jobs in the proposed industries or they will be left with labor jobs like sweepers etc. ? It it good idea to borrow concepts like SEZ blindly ?
It took some time for me to research and understand why the movie is named Made in China. The main concept of SEZ was developed and demonstrated successfully in China and was then copied by several other developing countries. More information on SEZ can be found here.
I would recommend you to watch the movie, if you enjoy Mystery movies and movies which make you think a bit. There is no powerful character role in the movie, though there are several renowned actors like Madhura Valankar, Sandeep Kulkarni, Milind Gunaji, Mrunal Kulkarni. Dr. Sharad Bhutadiya has justified his role in the movie well.
